I am an infamous procrastinator.
My clients know and accept it.
It does me fine when it comes to creating art. If I get down to the wire I just grab a pen (or whatever) and get drawing. It always works and sometimes actually gets those creative juices flowing at high speed.
Sometimes though procrastination takes its tole.
Recently (about 5 weeks ago) I was contacted by a gal about showing a piece at an erotic art show in Texas.
The door price benefited a children’s hospital and I thought that was cool.
A few years back we had an incident that landed my daughter in surgery at the children’s hospital in Seattle.
The insurance didn’t cover it all and we ended up with a huge bill.
The hospital reduced our amount by six thousand dollars after we told them we simply didn’t have the moolah.
Yep… cool stuff.
I will pretty much always give some art time to support children’s hospitals.
Anyways… I procrastinated on getting the art sent out.
(It was this erotic ink and watercolor btw)
The deadline hit.
I didn’t have anymore quality frames to fit just laying around so used a crud one from wally world.
I did use good matting however.
Never ever mat a work of art with bad matting or backing. Make sure it is at least acid free, but cotton is best.
I’ve seen acid free mats and boards cause yellowing over time too.
Back to the story…
I mat and frame (poorly) the art.
Matting it.
It is 9″ x 12″ and matted to 12″ x 16″
Framed!
Now to send it…
O.k. I’m out of boxes.
I will use a big yellow mailer envelope.
The bubble stuff will keep it safe hopefully.
Ha ha… I’m out of bubble wrapping and cardboard too.
Hmm, here is a little bit, I’ll just tape that on it.
Seems fragile, but wtf… better just risk it.
Yup, I’m an idiot sometimes.
I never would have sent something out like that for a buyer.
I know better.
Did it break?
Yup… got an email last night saying “The glass is broken.”
*sigh*
Procrastination and a rush job on framing and packaging.
After doing art for a living my entire life you would think I would have learned these lessons permanently at one point or another.
Instead I do some random act of art world stupidity at least every other year.
Yup, hopefully I am good till 2014 now.
