I uploaded a couple of new pen and ink figure sketches to my Sketchy Stuff section of Imagekind today.
First is this fun little sketch that I never gave a title.
Yes… I’m putting effort into titles for my sketches as usual.
For me part of the concept of sketching in the first place is to NOT put effort into them at all.
It is partially what divides the line between what a sketch is and what a drawing is.
When drawing for keeps one is trying to get a great image.
When sketching one must just let it all hang out and go for it.
If it is crap the trash can is soon to be it’s home.
When lucky a sketch sometimes comes out super cool in one way or another.
Sketches have a free flowing natural feel to them that most worked drawings just can’t compare to.
In my eye… ink sketches especially have that free flowing natural groove.
Every single mark is forever. It becomes what it becomes without any excuses or backing up.
It is what it is.
The first sketch above (The untitled one) was a lovely surprise for me.
I was just messing with poses and somehow captured a beautifully smirky girl. Both body language and facial expression show the reality of her.
SUPERB!
What I like about the second one (Steph # 3) is the essence of movement and position being captured in such a simple way.
It is what a good sketch should be. It is completely natural and exists as it exists capturing everything important and nothing more to ruin it’s simplicity.
It is also (to me) sexy!
So.. cool beans. Two simple ink sketches that I enjoy as much completed as I enjoyed creating them.
Prints are available HERE.
Oh, as a side note:
These sketches are not from the same batch or same model. I assumed it was obvious, but someone asked if it was “the same person.” Nope.
