A kinda sorta expressive and colorful piece I have titled “Three Girlfriends.”
This painting is 16″ wide x 20″ high and was done on a non stretched bit of canvas with acrylic paints.
The idea came to me as yet another news blurb floated across my tumblr about three women madly in love and getting hitched as a triad even though such marriages are as yet non legally binding.
Three women as a unit seems to be a popular topic on the internet these days if you follow many sites blogs, groups, networks, etc… that have anything to do with marriage equality, polyamory, bisexuality, pansexuality, or open relationship type stuff.
Though popular online I think such a grouping is very rare. I personally have only known one such triad that spanned any serious length of time in my life.
Finding one person whom you can deal with on a day to day basis (and can deal with you) is a pretty rare thing, but to find three it is extra hard. Maybe extra lucky is a better way to put it.
Throw in the idea of the three people being of the same gender and now you get extra hardships to boot. People often are not very open minded when it comes to how others live. They can be very cruel in how they express their distaste and bigotry. It can in some instances make any relationships outside of the stereotypical falsely monogamous, but cheats every once and a while boy plus girl relationship a lot more work than it is worth sometimes.
So… before I go into a rant (Applaud me stopping myself please) I will end that line of thinking and say this about the painting which I have titled Three Girlfriends… though simple in nature and creation my idea was to represent three woman whom are not just happily together, but who may also feel joy and pride in walking along on their journey of life, expressing their love and relationship. No shame or worries, just joy.
So… Prints of this painting can be had HERE via Fine Art America.
A remixed version can be found via my Society6 portfolio which offers prints, shirts, leggings, phone cases, mugs, tote bags, and more featuring this fun bit of artisticness.
Side note:
Since I mentioned that I have known a triad of this sort that did span many years I thought I should add a bit about them.
Beside living in such a manner which they didn’t publicly advertise, but did little to hide they also had two other things going against them as far as general public opinion went.
1) One of the women was in her late forties while the other two were in their late 20’s when I met them. Age can be a prickly subject for some.
2) Though two of the women identified as lesbians and primarily stuck within their group romantically and sexually one of the gals was completely against monogamy or anything resembling it and identified as bisexual. You’d not believe the hate this poor girl got from some close minded lesbians or the things the other two would sometimes be asked about it if it was ever brought up.
Considering all that I’d say it was a miracle they kept it all together. I no longer know any of them, but for all I know they are still all together. I hope so. They complimented each other well. They would have been (if more out) a great example of a polyamorous triad working out smoothly. Would have made fabulous spokespeople for poly lesbians and poly relationships so to speak. They even had traditionally attractive features which we all know is a must have for mainstream media to get into it.
Maybe one of them follows my blog and they will recognize themselves being spoken about here and feel the urge to message me a hello? *hint*
