Wishing Well Sticker

Ever throw a coin into a wishing well? I have.

Did your wish come true?

Ah, but why?
Wishing wells are things that have been around forever. As long as we’ve had history at least. Why though?

The mythologies and theories involved vary by culture, but in most cases, it had to do with deities or spirits living in or having something to do with water. The wishing well existed before there existed wells. Basically, it was about wishing and water.

So getting into the history of wishing wells is pretty much not a thing we can do in a simple post. There is so much involved that it would be an entire book.

I will touch on a couple of things.
First is that in Nordic mythologies there is a well that gives knowledge. Mímir’s well. Mímir himself partakes of this well. He even drinks from it with a drinking horn that may or may not be the same horn used to signal Ragnorak.
Pretty special if you ask me. Anyways, the well is located beneath one of the three roots of Yggdrasil. Potent. All things in old Norse culture required sacrifice. Not a group of entitled little brats at all. Odin was asked to sacrifice his right eye for what he wished. He wished for wisdom and received it. It was into that well that he was told to throw his eye.
The basic premise is to get one’s wish from the well one must sacrifice something.
The coins we toss nowadays are more of a holdover from a time when people did it in a sacrificial manner than anything else.
If I toss a penny, nickel, quarter, or even a dollar into a well it is no great sacrifice I have made. My wish will be granted in the same way my sacrifice was given.
I only have mentioned the nordic mythological reasons here because I recently posted a couple of paintings based on Huginn and Muninn. HERE and HERE.

So how did this mysterious and odd practice continue on through time when so many other things people did way back faded into oblivian?

It was through the selection of the fittest. That is my own opinion btw.
Those who spend time worrying on the big matters of spirituality, gods, creation, etc…
and believe in more than their limited personal view shows them are in my opinion the better folk.
They are often rewarded in roundabout ways. Imagine if you will living way back when a copper penny could feed you, When a bag of silver was a fortune, and coins had value.
To toss the coin was a sacrifice.
So in areas where beliefs ran shallow people didn’t do such things often. In areas where people believed in the miraculous they did.
One well gets many coins (and other valuable items) tossed into it while another goes without.
Diseases and such which we consider many of to be nothing now could wipe out a village in those days. The water supply was often the saving grace or the curse for people.
Guess what???? All that tossing of metals into the well kept people safe.
There is a biocidal effect of metals in water, especially heavy metals, but most common metals used to make coinage, jewelry, trinkets, and weapons have the magic. With every wish the people who believed kept themselves and their loved ones safe from the diseases that often ravaged others through bad water.
Thus the believers lived on and the unbelievers died more frequently.

Strange to imagine that a lovesick pup tossing his copper into the well whenever he got it and wishing for a marriage to a seemingly out of his reach girl could be directly responsible for keeping people alive. I’m sure if he truly loved her he would be very pleased with the notion because it meant he helped keep her alive as well. Who says romance is dead.

Inflaming Fervency   Leave a comment

Another lovely painting from my Two Moons series of semi-abstract sensual paintings.

Inflaming Fervency is the title for this. When painting it I had no idea of what to call it. I was just going with a feeling. I wanted it to express something I couldn’t really even put perfect words with. Hot desire, tantalization, need so great that it feels like insanity. A want of something so strong you feel as if you’d explode or die if you can’t have it… and it is right there, almost, teasing you with its existence. The lust overwhelms, thoughts are not coherent… that is where I was going and this is what I created.

Instruments of instigation   Leave a comment

Everyone has their little turn-ons and turn-offs. Sometimes a turn-off can be a turn-on with the right people.

Foot fetishes are very common. Having a fetish for a particular person can make a foot fetish exist only for that person. The power exchange in that can be immense.

The painting’s title expresses that idea in an obvious fashion. Originally I was going to call it something like tools of the tease, but it seemed a bit oversimplified.

A woman who has sexy or cute feet and a lover with a fetish for those feet or her, in general, possesses a set of tools that can drop him to his knees and make him lose all coherent thought… lust, desire, worshipfulness… all at her command.

I used a good five different painting styles all blended together to bring visual interest in an artistic manner. My logic-based reason was to pique interest in the painting even if the viewer had no foot fetish, hadn’t experienced extreme obsession for another, or maybe if the possessor of the beautifully shaped feet herself had never experienced either type. My non-logic-based reason was that I just wished to play with some blended styles. Basically F’n around with my paints and brushes. That honeycomb background was a time taker. An effort was involved. It was space out while listening to music effort though, so all is good. Prints of this painting may be purchased HERE via Pixels / Fine Art America.

The original has painted edges and is 16″ wide x 20″ high. It was painted with acrylic paints.

Nourishing Essentia   Leave a comment

Another painting from my Two Moons Painting Series.

This one really took on a life of it’s own as I created it. Zero planning, just a feeling.

Emotions, thoughts, feelings… they can never be fully expressed with words. The words don’t always exist. They can however sometimes be better expressed visually.
Abstract art is the best vehicle for that, but I can’t go completely abstract, it doesn’t jive with my creativity. Plus, this feeling… this conscious and unconscious thought, my emotions that couldn’t be expressed through words happened to fit perfectly within the confines of my Two Moons series.
Where does art come from? Dreams, love, and nature contribute to be sure.
Where do dreams begin and end? What is real or imagined? What is nature if not love?
I’m not a great philosopher so I will leave the answering of those questions to those who are.

So, to the art.

Nourishing Essentia

My idea here was I am the earth. I am the hard soil unable to nourish myself and if left alone would eventually dry up, cracking, and then turning to dust leaving nothing except a desolate landscape behind me. Nature provides. The Fates provide.
My soul needs to be nourished, so comes the opportunity. Maybe I am smart and take it, maybe I push it away, maybe I take it, but then think it is only temporary… So she comes. She is all that I need.
In this painting, I am represented as the earth and the earth as me. She is represented as nature’s gift, and nature’s gift is represented in her.
She covers me. I am fully enveloped and protected. Let her be leaves, grasses, flowers, moss, lichen, whatever… it doesn’t matter what form to that degree, just that she is there and has cloaked my with her love. She keeps me warm, and as small tendrils of her grow down deep into me she keeps me from drying out, she sends nourishment. If she stays I will be healthy forever. Those tendrils of herself she sends into me find something magical as well. Nourishment flows both ways. She needs me as much as I need her. She becomes lush, full, and vibrant. Nature is in its most beautiful state. Together we are what we are meant to be and our best forms come to be.
Free will is a bitch. We humans don’t know what is best for us. We are filled with doubts and often make mistakes.
Will she stay and grow? Will she depart and shrivel up to less than she could have been? Will I who am the momentarily rich and healthy soil lose my nourishment? Will the cloak be lifted and without her I die?
At the time of this painting I had no clue as to the answers. I only had that dream.

I created this painting I’d guess around three years ago. Often I stash them (my paintings) away and don’t show them (if at all) for many years. I usually hide them away and when I pull them out again I get to see them with new eyes. Instead of the creator, I am the viewer. With this one I saw it multiple times a week. It has been in full view up high on a wall in my studio the entire time. If I looked at it I would remember the feeling of my dream. To be fully enveloped in a way that nature intended. To feel nourished and safe. To feel complete and as I was meant to be. Dreams fade. Art can keep some of them alive. Maybe not in their totality, but they still exist.

o.K. I’ve babbled enough. Prints of this painting can be found HERE.

Also, If you are new to my art blog I’d like to point out that most images can be clicked on to see larger examples. All you lovely people who have followed me for years know that, but… I do pick up some new people and I thought it should be noted.

Trinal Surprise   Leave a comment

Not sure if this qualifies as what I call “Pop Cubism,” but I’m going with that as my stated style. So far the only person who has seen it gave it two thumbs down basically because they give all my work which they call “The angled stuff” and things like that two thumbs down. This style sells not very well for me as well when it comes to prints compared to my illustrative and expressive styled works. I’d say it is discouraging, but really it isn’t because I enjoy making paintings in this style. Also, the fact that I do sell some prints in this style shows that I am not alone in liking it. I’d rather make a few people very happy than everyone just a little happy.

Anyways… The art =

Trinal Surprise explores a variation of a common fantasy that many couples who engage in the hotwife lifestyle or swingers lifestyle have.
Basically, the fantasy is that the woman (wife) is blindfolded and a mystery man appears from some hidden place or at a set time. The mystery man then engages in fun and mutually enjoyable activities with the wife (often called a Vixen) while the husband watches the activities and often films or takes pictures.
In this fantasy it is common that the mystery male departs before the wife removes her blindfold which adds excitement and prolongs the game by her being left wondering.
Here I have added the element of true surprise as the wife (vixen) is expecting a mystery man, but has no clue that there are three rather than just one. Her planned surprise will become a true surprise.

The composition in this piece was very deliberate. I show who I wished to portray as the watching husband larger than life and in a manner that both brings him forward of the action yet also keeps him back in the action. It is hard to mess with perspective like that in this style as I (as the artist) was working with pretty flat imagery. Only the fact that extreme distortion is available to me in this style made it possible. The reason for this treatment of the husband was because this is HIS fantasy rather than hers.
It is obvious she agreed, and is enthusiastic about the fantasy of a mystery man and being blindfolded, but she is to be surprised when one becomes three. The husband set it up as a surprise and without her foreknowledge. His reason for such a thing would be to watch the scene play out with voyeuristic bliss.
The wife has become an actress without a script.
In such situations the husband can only hope his fantasy come to life will be taken in stride by his wife and that she finds it enjoyable to be part of such a show.

It is a dangerous game the man plays.

So… now that you’ve all been given this long-winded blah blah about Trinal Surprise I think you should get yourself a print of it. You can do that HERE.
